Cross Country Moving And Storage - Terrible experience

This experience was terribly distressing, even when I was writing this review. I was not fully aware of The Interstate Moving Companies. This group of criminals prospering in this lawful country for many decades: My whole move was involved in three companies. They perform the same pattern as most of the interstate moving companies. It was involved in 3 stages: brokers, movers then delivering companies. Although they are all involved in my move, they deny their connections with each other because they are all crooks performing different parts of these unsanctioned schemes. My moving was involved in the 3 companies: 1.Broker: Cross Country Moving Company, Delray, Florida 2.Movers: Trig Moving and Storage, Burbank, California 3.Delivery: Jonah Frankel at Frankel Van Lines, Brooklyn, NY 11252. November 2020. I was contacted by Neil an agent from Cross Country Moving proposing service to move my households from California to Houston. He sounded decent and professional.. A contract was drafted based on the content of my list. The proposed cost was $1735.22 I signed the contract and paid the first payment of $661.64. Two days before the moving date: I was contacted by Annie to go over my inventory final list of items. The set date of household pickup was 11/18-19. New cost was $1794.71. I signed the updated contract. Movers did not show up on Nov 18. I made several calls, they never called back. A day before my flight, I got a call from a stranger that they will come to pick up my household on my departure day, I could not be there . A friend of mine had to be there on time to watch them moving my households. They came in the evening, coercing my friend to sign a new contract waivers with the cost increased to $2,764, one thousand dollars increase. The close escrow of my house is in 4 days, and I was on the plane. My friend had no choice but signing the papers and paying 2/3 of the new cost so that the movers started working. The next day, I contacted Neil. He apologized and continuously made empty promises. After several weeks of fruitless calls, living in minimal comfort condition for more than a month, spent Christmas in fear of loosing my lifelong belongings. I filed a complaint to the office FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Agency). A warning letter based on my complaint was sent out to them on my behalf . This letter had an effect on them. Two weeks later, I received a phone call at 8 PM from this guy name Jonah telling me that he would deliver the household on the next morning at 8AM. They showed up at 8:15 the next morning. Jonah asked me for $1051 cash up front (the last 1/3 of new payment) before he was doing anything else. Said he was not presenting Trig nor Cross Country movers, he did not know them, he only does exactly what was told, if I did not pay, he would unload the truck at a storage somewhere, and I would have to pay for all the incurred costs. Again, I was put in a no-other-option situation. I had to pay this illegal 60% increase, in cash so that to receive my house goods. Many items were broken, furniture was torn, and I missed a whole box containing my most irreplaceable items with sentimental values. I contacted them, no replies, of course. The cost of moving to Texas was much bigger than the monetary cost. I had many sleepless nights, anxiety, anger, and I was totally consumed by the feeling of helplessness. I would not want any of these experiences to occur to anybody, even my worse enemies. Please read the complaints carefully and take as many precautions as possible. I will submit this claim to every possible websites, platforms and to the governmental agency. I think we need to work together to end these organized crimes, attacking the singles, the elderly and unaware people. They profit from illegal business practices more than ever because people are increasingly migrating due to this Coronavirus pandemic.

Cross Country Moving And Storage - Cross Country Movers could have been Dante's Eighth Circle of ***

Moving is a change. Change is always stressful. Companies that work in this field have two options: one is to offer a service that fulfills the need to move in an atmosphere with policies, procedures and personnel that reduce the stress. Second, however, unfortunately as with Cross Country Movers, the company seeks to capitalized on the moving crisis by preying on the stress to increase their profit. First, let me share some background. I’m 75. My wife and I have been married since college and have moved 5 times, all within a 30-mile radius. I was totally ignorant of how long distance moving operates. As I made Internet inquiries, I was contacted by Cross Country Movers. I tried my best to estimate with the agent what we would move. I realized that I hadn’t included some things and adjusted the inventory. We had also sold several things. I thought we were close but not exact to the estimate. And although their literature said “if you are substantially above the estimate, you will be charged” in reality they meant “if you are ONE cubit foot over the estimate you will be charged.” What I learned between 5PM and 11 PM (yes that would be PM when the truck and movers arrived and to load in the dark; they also arrived at 8PM to unload. Preferring to work in the dark and sucking blood are two indications that the personnel could be vampires.) one Thursday evening in a small town in Indiana with a small house load of furniture moving to small town in Pennsylvania was to warn anyone I can, anyway I can, if you are considering a cross country move, run, do not walk, as far away from Cross Country movers as you can. The 2 movers (and I was told that there would be 4) arrived, the head honcho walked through the house and announced, “you have a 1100 cubic feet of furniture and boxes; they underestimated the couch, love seat and chair were overstuffed and didn’t allow enough cubic feet because they only allowed you 671 cubic feet in the price which is quoted at $ 3.00/cubic ft. But if we load it now, it’s gonna cost you $7.00 a cubic ft, so the price is going up $2800. You okay with that?” What happened next was somewhat surreal. The head honcho mover told me that he and his partner didn’t make very much and if I scratched his back, he’d scratch mine, i.e. if I paid him under the table, he squeeze me into some more cubic ft at a better price. I am, in retrospect, somewhat ashamed, as many elderly victims are when they have been scammed, agreed to pay him and his partner $ 500. As I look back on it, not only was I scammed, but the employee was cheating his employer. And as I was in the throes of chaos and a crisis, I had unwittingly become a participant in a white-collar crime. And with the under the table money, I still wound up with a dozen item that I had to leave, find a place to store (I am thankful that God provided me 2 friends who jumped in and helped me out.) and will have to hire a 2nd truck to drive from Indiana to Pennsylvania with the rest of my belongings. Cross Country movers was not a customer friendly company to me as a customer. Had Cross Country movers had a protocol that was user focused and friendly with people who are moving, ergo, going through stress in their lives, I might have been a satisfied customer instead of a provoked victim of a very abusive business who takes advantage of people in the crisis and stress of moving and uses that advantage to increase their profit. Cross Country movers will say that they are a family run moving business; what they don’t say is that the family is the Corleone family.

Cons:
  • Being conned and scammed
Reason of review:
Poor customer service

Preferred solution: It will cost me approximately $ 2200 to return to Indiana, hire a truck to move the items that the movers would not load. I would appreciate a the money to cover the additional, unwarranted expense

CROSS COUNTRY MOVING & STORAGE IN ROCKVILLE MD IS TERRIBLE IN MY OPINION

They refused to unpack and put things away, even in a full service move, for which they were paid $1950 for ten mile move. They did not mark many boxes as to contents. They got lost in a ten mile drive even with GPS. They arrived 4 hours late. They spent four hours unloading but refused to unpack unless I paid them a considerable amount of money extra. I am a 76 year old cancer patient, without the full use of my left hand. Their customer service is non-existent. If you use these people for any kind of move, you need your head examined !!!

Charged double than what was quoted

I asked Cross Country Moving & Storage, Inc. to move my household items from one house to another about 3 miles away. except a few pieces of furniture everything was already boxed. yet the company managed to charge more than 100% of the costed labor costs for packaging. in addition i charged more hours that what was spent and it also charged fuel as a percentage of total costs rather than e.g. distance. finally, they added another hour moving costs a week after the deliver and never paid the deposit back. if you want to save you some trouble avoid this company.
